Sunset at the "Red Mountain" behind Estepona
Evening hike with sunset on the summit of the Sierra Bermeja, Pico Los Reales, the highest mountain directly on the coast, with a fantastic view over the strait of Gibraltar and the Ronda mountains
We start our hike in the late afternoon through the Pinsapo forest, and over a wide ridge with spectacular views and up to the summit of Los Reales. The famous Pinsapo fir is a botanical rarity, there are only four Pinsapo fir forests on earth, it withstands the cold winds on the steep northern slopes of the mountains, extreme cold and heat waves and has even survived the last Ice Age. The climb is a bit steep, but the entire hike is not very long. On the way up it is still light, the descent in the dark is then on a tarmac-road, so technically very easy.
The sun sets at 21:40 at Los Reales, the moon rises at 21:44
At the summit of Los Reales we take a break and enjoy the sunset. The 360º view is impressive. Return on the mountain road to the starting point.
